Turn Your Blog Into a Podcast

FeedBurner, a free web service that allows users to manage and splice together their various RSS feeds, has a feature that could be very useful to bloggers who currently "podcast" by simply linking to MP3s in blog posts. When you run a feed through FeedBurner, it looks for anchor tags (links) in each post containing the attribute "rel='enclosure'," and automatically turns these links into feed enclosures.  What this means, effectively, is that FeedBurner can convert your RSS feed containing MP3 links into a true podcast!

To set this up:

  1. Get a FeedBurner account (it's free).
  2. Submit your blog's RSS feed to FeedBurner.  Check the "I am a podcaster" box.
  3. Fill in the optional podcast settings.
  4. Now just add links to MP3s in your blogs posts, but make sure to include rel="enclosure" on each link.
  5. Give your listeners your FeedBurner feed URL instead of your normal feed URL.  They will be able to subscribe to it in iTunes like any other podcast!
